I grew up in a small farming town outside Ann Arbor, Michigan. I love reading, music, and a good cup of hot, black coffee.

In 2005, I moved to New York City; and today live in Hoboken with my wife and two cats.

A bit about my development process.

After making sketches with pencil and paper, I design right in the browser. Some new software, such as Macaw, have made huge strides in updating the design process for the modern web. Macaw is fun and useful for designing individual elements, and for designing large-scale, responsive projects. Yet I love well crafted hand-made code, so I still prefer the browser for most of my design process.

In development, I typically use LESS, or SCSS, and Grunt. Preprocessors, task runners and javascript frameworks have been making it easier and more fun to develop for the web, especially at greater complexity and scale.

My development software set-up:

  • OS X
  • Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC & Macaw
  • Espresso
  • Safari
  • CodeKit, GitHub & SourceTree
  • BrowserStack
  • Transmit
  • iTunes, Rdio & Last.fm
